Happy Birthday Francisco Lindor

It’s hard to believe that Francisco Lindor is only turning 25 today. The Cleveland Indians shortstop has already been in the big leagues for four years after breaking out in 2015 with a fantastic rookie season. Although he’s young, Lindor has an impressive major league resume and he’s already a superstar in Cleveland.

In 2015, Lindor came second in Rookie of the Year voting. He lost to fellow shortstop Carlos Correa in an extremely close race. It was during this first year in the big leagues that Lindor was already showing superstar potential. He hit .313 with a .482 Slugging Percentage, and 12 home runs. He was also heavily praised for his athleticism and elite defensive ability.

During the next three years of Lindor’s career (2016 – 2018), he has made three All – Star Games, won two Silver Sluggers, one Gold Glove, and has consistently been in the AL MVP conversation. Over this time, he has racked up an impressive 23.9 career WAR, and turned himself from solely a contact hitter into one of the most dangerous power hitters in all of the majors. Lindor hit 27 homeruns total in the first two years of his career. In the next two years combined, he would hit 71.

2018 was the best year of Lindor’s career to date. He finished with a .277 batting average, hit a career high 38 home runs, and turned in a 7.9 WAR. In the Indian’s ALDS series, Lindor hit .364 and had a 1.273 OPS. However, this wasn’t enough to advance as the Indians got bounced by the defending champion Astros in three games.

Known as Mr. Smile, Lindor is already a hero in Cleveland thanks to his electrifying defense, clutch hitting prowess, and extremely likeable personality. Hopefully, 25 is an even better year for Lindor and the Cleveland Indians.
